What? Does The Rolex Daytona Also Have A Tourbillon?

As we all know, Rolex itself does not produce tourbillon watches. However, in September 2018, the Swiss modification studio LabelNoir launched the first Rolex Tourbillon watch in history (customized by LabelNoir) based on Milgauss Ref. 116400 at the request of Qatar customers. Recently, LabelNoir refitted on the basis of Ref. 116520 and released the first custom Rolex Daytona tourbillon watch.

This unique timepiece is tailor-made and will be delivered to customers after four exhibitions in Geneva, Paris, Saint-Tropez and Monaco. Until then, the watch was kept safely by watchmaker EmmanuelCurti. EmmanuelCurti is a member of the well-known Socie ́te ́SuissedeChronome ́trie (SSC) association and the CEO of LabelNoir.

The modified prototype is a discontinued Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 116520 watch, completely owned by the custom customer. LabelNoir has added a tourbillon function to the Caliber 4130 movement at 6 o’clock according to customer wishes. After the successful transplantation, the small seconds dial originally set at 6 o’clock on the face of the disc disappeared to make room for the tourbillon frame. The tourbillon rotates once per minute while being decorated with the word ‘LN’ (ie LabelNoir acronym).

The challenge for LabelNoir is to keep as many original parts of this watch as possible. LabelNoir completely disassembled the Calibre 4130 movement, removing 61 parts that were no longer needed, especially those related to the small seconds at 6 o’clock. At the same time, 93 parts related to the tourbillon and its frame were added. In addition, the power of the barrel is also increased to drive the tourbillon, and the frequency of the movement is reduced from 28,800 times / hour (4 Hz) to 21,600 times / hour (3 Hz).
